In the celebration of the St. Paul's Week 2020. The most awaited prestigious event arises again after seven years of slumber. As SPU Surigao promotes Outcome-based Education as our way of school life evident in our teaching-learning experiences, the school recognizes the need to look for and develop its student models and ambassadors who best exhibit the Pauline core values. The Search for Mr. and Ms. University 2020. Entails the significant factor of the Mission and Vision, Core Values and Affirmations as their marks being a Paulinian.

As the night fills with stark excitement, 15 peerless candidates withstand in their best-modes vie for the covetous crowns and titles. Special Awards Consigna for Male and Female People's Choice determined by the consolidated top online facebook heart reaction-votes and coin march achievements were both acquired from Accountancy, Mr. Aljuantone, and Ms. Carmel Yparraguirre. And Most Photogenic determined through the yielded official candidates photos taken during the photoshoot led by the invited official and professional photographer and judge, Mr. Reynan Tan of Ganna Marketing and Wedding plus Events Digital Studio, is awarded to Mr. Ken Simon Amper from Business Management, and Ms. Carmel Yparraguirre from Accountancy. The Community Awards our version of Congeniality special award who candidates scored and have voted among themselves who best demonstrates “Engaging, Trustworthy, Team Builder and Mentor, fostering community through active collaboration” affirmation and characteristics of a Paulinian. Mr. Kelvin Pacatan from Education and Ms. Lance Marie Escalante from Business Management grabbed the award. The Charism awards candidates who, during their opening production performance, best exhibited excellent performance charisma which signifies their being "Cutting-edge, Resilient, Visionary and Innovator, Demonstrating one‟s creativity and charism”. Mr. Aljhon Lampad from Tourism Management and Ms. Shella Vie Jolejole from Tourism Management won the award.

The awestruck time of the evening as we witnessed our candidates in the next round of the competition. Displayed their Paulinian commission core value and listened to their simon-pure commitment statements. The Charity awards obtained by Mr. Jon Christian Paloma from Philosophy and Ms. Lance Marie Escalante from Business Management who considered as best Paulinian Advocates exhibiting their being “Dedicated, Transformative, Supporter, and Steward of all creation, impelled by compassion and charity for all”. The Christ-centeredness awards grabbed by Mr. Jon Christian Paloma from Philosophy and Ms. Carmel Yparraguirre from Accountancy candidates who best portray and describe their being “Christ-centered Ethical, Paulinian Leader and Professional, consciously expressing one‟s faith”. Mr. Kurt Wilfred Dulu from Nursing and Ms. Carmel Yparraguirre from Accountancy won the Commission Award who, during their Formal Professional Gala Walk, best portray being “Reliable, Productive EXPERT and IMPLEMENTER, competently implementing one‟s mission in life”.

The much-awaited part of this event is the question and answer portion. “Talking is not as easy as walking” as the candidates' showcases not only their resplendent beauty but also the prowess of their wits on Paulinian Affirmations & Core Values. The crowd was cheering and supporting all their bet candidates who will make the Top 3. Appreciation to all candidates that they are still winners for bearing this journey in Mr. and Ms. University 2020. As the host announces the Top 3, the crowd was also tense which candidates will make it. The top 3 in the male category were Mr. Aljhon Lampad from Tourism Management, Mr. Jon Christian Paloma from Philosophy, and Mr. Kurt Wilfred Dulu from Nursing. In the female category, Ms. Carmel Yparraguirre from Accountancy, Ms. Lance Marie Escalante from Business Management, and Ms. Shella Vie Jolejole from Tourism Management.

As the top 3 candidates battled for the last question and answer portion. "What Paulinian Quality are you most proud of and how will you apply that quality to your time as Mr./Ms. University?" One question that will determine who will be the next Mr. and Ms. University.

The result ended with great joy and satisfaction.

Last March 1-2, the College of Education, Culture and the Arts (CECA) and the College of Business and Technology (CBT) underwent series of class observations and extensive survey visit by the Philippine Accreditation Association of Schools, Colleges and Universities (PAASCU). After 3 months of waiting, finally, St. Paul University Surigao’s Liberal Arts, Sciences, Elementary and Secondary Education and Business Administration Programs have met the standards and are now accredited as level II by PAASCU.

This milestone is a collaborative effort of the administrators of SPUSurigao headed by Sr. Marie Rosanne Mallillin, SPC, the ever-active deans, Sr. Nicole Dabalus, SPC and Atty. Leonardo del Carmen, the Quality Management Office Director, Mrs. Marsha Gonzaga, the faculty, staff and students of the Higher Education.

Due to an exemplar exhibit of culture of excellence and quality education, the aforementioned programs the said departments achieved a clean accreditation which will expire on 2022.

So, we should be one with our conscience and bring harmony within.

Pedro Calungsod, also known as Peter Calungsod and Pedro Calonsor, was a Roman Catholic Filipino migrant, sacristan and missionary catechist who, along with the Spanish Jesuit missionary Diego Luis de San Vitores, suffered religious persecution and martyrdom in Guam for their missionary work in 1672.

SPUS and partner institutions sign work-based learning MOA

In pursuant of DepEd Order no. 39 Series of 2018 on work-based learning through work immersion of the Senior High School students, St. Paul University Surigao Senior High School Unit and partner institutions took into papers the partnership agreement on the Work Immersion deployment of the graduating SHS Paulinians at the International Conference Hall earlier this afternoon.

With 35 partner institutions and individuals, Mrs. Louie Galaura, Assistant Principal of the SHS Unit, expressed her deepest gratitude in her welcome message for taking a heed on the call through the said undertaking in pursuit of “preparing the students to meet the needs and challenges of employment.” More so, general instructions based on the DepEd order were also channeled out on the assembly.

On the other hand, Sr. Teresita Baricaua, SPC, Basic Education Principal, also extended her heartfelt appreciation to the partner institutions as they “embody the school’s educational goals which are to prepare the students develop their competencies and work ethics, and to strengthen their motivation to pursue their dreams.”

Prior to the actual signing of Memorandum of Agreement, CARAGA Regional Hospital representative Mr. Ronic B. Salmayor commended the unit for initiating the said event as to benchmark the work-based learning and further added that they “very much welcome” this kind of endeavor.

True with the goal to #LinkAndLearn, starting March 25, the graduating Senior High School students will have a 2-week deployment aligned with their chosen strand in the said partner agencies through the Work Immersion course.

27 Paulinian athletes from the Basic Education department and College department will represent St. Paul University Surigao in the 2019 Inter-CEAP Schools Mindanao Sports Games on February 7-10, 2019 with the theme, “Filipino Youth in Mission: Beloved, Gifted, Empowered.” The Catholic Educational Association of the Philippines (CEAP) Mindanao Games this year is hosted by Xavier University - Ateneo de Cagayan in Region X.

The Surigaonon Paulinian athletes will compete in 5 different sports namely swimming, chess, teakwondo, lawn tennis and in the track and field events respectively. They are also accompanied by Mr. Caballes, Mrs. Ariar, Mr. Dionaldo and Ms. Torrecampo as their coaches.

Discovering Hidden Treasures in Ordinary Lives

In celebration of the World Day of the Poor, the Paulinian community initiated a whole-day activity that was simultaneously held at the HS Atrium and New Gymnasium.

With the theme, “Day of the Poor: Discovering Hidden Treasures in Ordinary Lives,” the program started with several animation songs led by select CMVASS and YFC members. It was then followed by a Welcome message by Rev. Fr. Larry Espuerta, DCS. The Dialogue of Life of the SHS and College students together with the invited guests was conducted in their respective classrooms and assigned areas. Through the Paulinian Agape, the Paulinian community also prepared a sumptuous lunch for their respective guests.

To culminate the event, a Eucharistic Celebration was offered at the New Gymnasium with the SHS unit and College department in attendance. The said activity was sponsored by the Christian Formation Office spearheaded by Sr. Maria Teresa Mallillin, SPC.

St. Paul University Surigao has proven its mark as a leading provider of quality education and service to the Paulinian community as Tüv Rheinland issued a new certificate after a 2-day ISO audit in both campuses on October 29-30, 2018.

This year’s audit team is composed of Ms. Jean Laguitao (JL), the lead auditor, Engr. Mary Grace Balobalo (GB) and Ms. Jogina Mendiola (JM).

After series of class observations and interviews, the general result or finding was very commendable as SPUS, for the first time in history, incurred zero NCs (non-conformity) during the audit.

The Science Exhibit showcased the variety of outputs made by Paulinian students such as the Herbarium, Terrarium, Electric Coil and other scientific inventions. The different clubs and organizations competed as well in the Sudoku Competition.

The CECA Month celebration activities will continue next week with the Spelling Bee Competition and Science Quiz Bowl.

All the winners of the above-mentioned contests will be proclaimed and awarded during the celebration's Culmination Program on November 2018.
